Last week EMC held 12 exciting events around the world to reveal new revolutionary midrange solutions including the next generation of their VNX unified storage family. EMC VIPR, the first commercially available Virtual storage platform & “Project Nile”, a web-scale storage infrastructure for the data centre.
The UK event was held in London’s prestigious Lords Cricket Ground with a fantastic turnout of 350 indirect partners.
The day started with an introduction from EMC’s UK & Ireland Managing Director, James Petter, who discussed the core values of EMC, the current state of the industry and what EMC will be to stay ahead in the ever growing market.
In recent years the storage/data industry has seen not just incremental changes, but large and accelerating disruption to the market from new technologies such as Mobile and Social Networking. EMC explained how their core focus is on Cloud, Big data and most importantly a platform of trust.
In order to keep up with the disruptive data growth, EMC themselves are creating disruptive technology, driving innovation and change, announcing solutions that incorporate Intel Multicore processors, virtualisation and Flash storage to enable such leverage.
Throughout the rest of the day there were presentations given from various representatives from EMC as well as Cisco and Microsoft about the latest and greatest EMC have to offer – they went down exceedingly well with the audience.
The highlight of the announcements is the upgraded VNX hybrid storage arrays; which are flash optimised, with Multicore processors allowing the consolidation of workloads through virtualisation, dramatically increasing the efficiency & value of the device. The new VNX boasts up to 4x faster speeds and up to 1m IoPs as well as being capable of handling Block, File and Object data.
The key message: EMC are providing solutions that will give business’ the speed they need to lead in the increasingly demanding world of storage, backup and archive.
